Yummilicious and Nutritious Mini-Pizza-Bites for toddlers!!

Home made Thin-Crust Pizza Bites recipe for Toddlers

Past few weeks, Merog is not showing any interest in having his meals regularly. Day by day, he is becoming a finicky eater with very small appetite.
I am just urging him to eat lil’ more during every meal like all other mothers do with their toddlers.
Being a tot he has short attention span and mood-swings during mealtime!!
I know, it’s evident and so much predictable in case of toddlers. But as a mommy, it’s very difficult for me to digest this science of behavior –“my baby is refusing to eat” fact! I was unable to cope up with the situation and meal times were becoming little frustrating for me and I was becoming more anxious. So,I decided to go with the following steps,

  • Letting my son to touch and play with food and allowing him for some mess, to make meal time more fun. (Baby Lead  Cooking  along with Baby Lead Weaning)
  • Stopped forcing him to eat. (Considering that he will get hungry after some time and may be after nap time, he will eat something)
  • Trying to let my son feed himself and give him some help if he needs.
  • Trying to Keep on offering new foods to him in regular intervals than a whole meal at a time without any distractions around. I also try to hide away his toys (especially his vehicle parking)during meal times.
  • Trying out new recipes with Merog’s assistance. So that, his excitement persists while eating the food he cooked for himself.

It is taking several goes for Merog and me to accept and enjoy these new ways.

This Small Pizza-bites recipe comes under our new beginning of having meals and cooking together.

Recipe :

Home-made nutritious Thin-Crust Pizza-Base without Yeast

Ingredients for Thin-Crust Pizza-Base :

1 1/2 cup wheat flour
4 tsp curd
1 egg
1 tsp olive oil
1/2 tbs baking powder (You can replace this with Eno, which can be available in any medical stores)
1/4 tsp sugar
1/2 tbs salt (as per taste)
1/2 tsp sesame seeds and 1/2 tsp Kalonji/Black cumin seeds

Procedure to make pizza-base:

Add the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and mix it well.
Add olive oil, curd and egg blend it well and sieve it into the dry mixture of flour.
knead a dough nicely.
Use it in next 10 min.
(As, it’s an instant pizza base, we don’t need to keep it aside for longer period in the warm place and covered with muslin cloth)
Divide the dough into 4 equal portions.
Roll each portion into a 4-5” diameter circle with the help of wheat flour
Prick each circle evenly using a fork or with backend of any spoon. (To avoid flour puffing when we bake the pizza base)
Place all the 4 pizza base on a baking tray and bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°c (360°f) for 3 to 5 minutes(as per your oven settings).
Thin crust, healthy pizza base is ready now.
(P.S. you can make this dough whenever you have a spare 10 minutes:) You can add fresh or dried fenugreek leaves in the dough to make it more healthy)

Also, You can use this same pizza dough to make Indian Favorite snack food ‘Plain or Methi Khakra’ which you can feed your kids any time of the day. Again healthy and nutritious and power packed recipe

How to make khakra out of healthy pizza dough :

Roll out the thinnest possible roti out of small ball of dough, cook on flat pan/tawa with low flame, pressing it tightly with wooden press or folded cloth)

Healthy Pizza-Sauce :


4 tsp onion paste
2 Tomatoes pureed
2 tsp garlic paste
1.5 tsp finely chopped fresh basil leaves
3 tsp olive oil
1 tsp oregano
Salt and pepper (as per taste)

Procedure to make Pizza Sauce :

Heat olive oil in small pan.
Add above ingredients to it.
Stir and simmer for 5 min on low flame.
Add salt and pepper to taste
you can add some more dry oregano for nice aroma to come.
Cool it down and top it on a baked pizza base.

Pizza Toppings :

Spread some butter on Pizza base.
spread the freshly made pizza sauce on a pizza-base.
Add some grated cheese (You can skip this if you want)
Top with the veggies like, red, yellow and green bell peppers,Onions (if required), corn, mushrooms, chicken pieces. (veg/non-veg as per choice)
spread the grated cheese.
Bake the pizza in a preheated oven for 10 minutes at 180 degrees C.
Add less toppings, to avoid soggy and mushy pizza but don’t forget to add some good cheese on it.

I am sure, toddlers love to eat pizza. My bunny doesn’t like pizza at all. But this home-made and self made pizza-bites he loved a lot.
